Netflix subscribers in Morocco have begun receiving notifications informing them of changes to their monthly subscription fees, as the country’s new value-added tax (VAT) regime on foreign digital services takes effect, resulting in price increases that vary depending on the subscription plan.

The price increase comes as part of the implementation of Morocco’s new tax provisions governing digital services provided by foreign companies to consumers in the country. Under the new rules, these services are subject to the standard 20% value-added tax (VAT), according to the available information.

According to the updated Netflix pricing, the Basic plan will increase from MAD 37 to MAD 45 per month, while the Standard plan will rise from MAD 65 to MAD 80. The Premium subscription plan will now cost MAD 115 per month.

Subscribers began receiving email notifications in late July informing them of the revised subscription fees. The new prices will take effect for users starting August 20.

In its message to subscribers, Netflix said the increase would enable it to continue improving its service and expanding its content library, noting that users gain access to dozens of new films and series each month.

The price adjustments coincide with the implementation of Morocco’s new VAT framework for foreign digital services. The regime covers audiovisual streaming platforms, digital advertising, online travel booking platforms, subscription-based software, cloud storage services, and other digital services provided to Moroccan consumers.
