The reform of Morocco’s undeveloped land tax is starting to boost municipal revenues. By the end of July 2026, the tax had generated 2.81 billion dirhams, up 48.9% from a year earlier and already above the full-year forecast of 2.55 billion dirhams. The new system, which adjusts the tax according to the level of infrastructure serving each plot, can also significantly increase the bill for some landowners.

Fitch Ratings has affirmed Morocco’s sovereign rating at “BB+,” with a stable outlook.
