The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Belgium-based Ibdaa Academy for Arabic Language Research and Teaching launched a training program on Wednesday to strengthen research and teaching of Arabic in Europe.

The program aims to improve the skills of more than 50 teachers, educators, researchers and others interested in Arabic language instruction in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, ICESCO said in a statement. Regular training workshops will continue through May 2027.

Ibdaa Academy President Ahmed Ouzzine said the partnership with ICESCO aims to build lasting scientific and educational ties among Arab institutions, experts and professionals working in Arabic language teaching across Europe.

Majdi Hajj Ibrahim, director of ICESCO’s Arabic Language Center, stressed the importance of continuous teacher training. He said the program’s focus on language teaching methods, pedagogy and artificial intelligence reflects an understanding of the major changes currently affecting education.

The program is built around three main areas, Arabic language teaching, teaching methods and pedagogy, and artificial intelligence. It places ongoing teacher training at the center of efforts to improve the quality of Arabic instruction.

Particular attention will be given to artificial intelligence, which the organizers view as a promising tool that can be used responsibly to design classroom activities, develop teaching materials and analyze learners’ errors.

Workshops will be held every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the program, led jointly by experts from ICESCO and Ibdaa Academy. They will draw on their scientific expertise to improve teaching practices, develop activities and educational resources, and promote the use of modern technologies in Arabic language instruction.
